Our Amazing Volunteer Pilot

The journey from James Bay to Barrie is a long and eventful one. There are always multiple volunteers who each contribute to one part of the journey. Luckily we have the support of many pilots from Pilots N Paws Canada and Thunder Airlines to help bring dogs and puppies south and supplies north. When the many rivers are not frozen the only way to get in and out of Fort Albany is by airplane. These great people provide their services whenever they have room on their flights.

When the rivers and lakes freeze over the ‘rescuees’ can be transported over land. The journey starts with a couple of hours in a truck from Fort Albany to Moosonee where they board a train to Cochrane. After the 5 hour train ride they usually have an overnight with a volunteer before continuing their trip the next morning.  Quite often the 7 or 8 hour trip involves multiple switch overs and needs to be co-ordinated with many volunteers.
