Our littlest fur friends had a great big weekend! This past weekend (the 13-15th of November 2015) our fabulous volunteers opened up their homes to host Puppy Meet and Greets. Friday the pups debuted in Barrie, Saturday they wowed in Orillia, and curtain call was Sunday in Midland. But if all of the excitement was too much for these 4 legged stars they sure didn’t let on! Every day they brought their loveable “A” game and melted the hearts of the more than 150 people who attended.
As some of you may already know, Finding Them Homes does not do “on spot” adoptions. Our adoption process does include a mandatory home visit before potential adopters are approved. We do this in order to make every effort to find the best, most permanent home for our dogs. However, many people are hesitant to begin the adoption process based on a dog they have only seen in pictures. That’s why we make an effort to host these Meet and Greets as often as possible.
Fortunately, even though we do not do “on spot” adoptions, we have a stupendous team of volunteers willing to assist in any way they can. Thanks to them, we were able to complete a huge number of home visits and we are thrilled to announce that as of today (Friday, November 20th), the majority of the puppies featured at the Meet and Greet have since been adopted! How’s that for a success story?
As with any new pet, you can expect to see varying behaviours as they settle into their new surroundings. Your new dog may seem calm and timid initially, but as they build their bond with you, you may find they begin to exhibit higher energy levels. This is normal, especially for a puppy. Your whole family will need to work with your newest member to teach them the expectations of the household. It will take your dog some time to adapt but with patience and teamwork they’ll be blending in seamlessly in no time. We always suggest signing up for obedience classes. Beyond teaching your dog important skills, it gives them an opportunity to socialize and strengthen their trust in you. It also helps build confidence. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like assistance finding a reputable trainer in your area.

Finally a HUUUUUUGE thank you to everyone who volunteered their homes, helped transport dogs, and everyone else who helped make this weekend a resounding success. It is because of you that we have been able to grow as a rescue and we are so thankful to all of you for your continued support.
