If At First You Don’t Succeed …

Try and try again! And that’s exactly what a determined group of Finding Them Homes volunteers did when they set out for Cat Lake on March 5th to pick up dogs to bring into foster care. Narrow roads, treacherous winter conditions, and a vehicle not equipped for the rough conditions forced Karen Barry & Tracy Switzer to turn back part way to Cat Lake and reassess their options.

Things were looking pretty dire for our discouraged crew when Slate Falls Airways saved the day by offering free (!) air transport to and from Cat Lake at the last minute. With a plan in place, they were finally able to get some rest and prepare for the long day ahead of them.

The following day they loaded up food and crates on the Slate Falls Airways aircraft and made the hour long flight to Cat Lake. There they were met by Abby Williams and her adorable daughter. Over the next three hours, they picked up 5 dogs (one of which is pregnant) and then flew back to Slate Falls where they carefully loaded up their new friends and headed for home.

A huge thank you goes out not only to our determined team of travellers, but also to the folks at Slate Falls Airways for making it possible to get to/from Cat Lake, and to the Cat Lake First Nation Dog Rescue (check them out on Facebook!) and Northern Reach for helping make this trip a success, even when it seemed like all hope was lost.

And, as always, a huge thank you to all of you, our supporters, for providing us the support we need in order to make these long (and sometimes very difficult) trips! This truly is a joint effort and we couldn’t do it without all of you!
